Would 4ft fencing cause a problem with my neighbours?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

I am moving to a new property with a small back garden but with a larger front garden I would like to put fencing up to keep my dogs in, we have our own boundaries at the front but no one else in this little row of bungalows has front fencing I only want to put up fence panels to the height of 4 ft would I be allowed to do this without causing a problem with the neighbours I just need to utilise the space I have.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I agree with srr. The condition will either have been set by the developers so check in your deeds but I would also check with the local council's planning team as it is also sometimes a planning restriction. If there are no restrictions in place you can build any structure up to 1m in height (including fence posts, brick pillars, trellis etc) if within 2m of a highway (road/footpath). If it's over 1m in height you will need to apply for planning. louise uk property services

If none of the naibours have it, it could be due to some newish developments not being allowed fencing on the original plans. There's a nice estate near me that is about 20 years old and all the front gardens are open plan and people there cannot but any fencing or substancual hedging in.

Hi, It shouldn't be an issue at all, if it is your property then you are well within your right to erect the fence. Also if anyone does question it you can explain why you needed it, explaining about your dogs and they should understand!

Hi It all depends with the council regulations and you should check your deeds about what you can do with your front garden.
