Is aluminium a better material to choose for windows (including bi-folding doors) than UPVC?

We are starting a 4-bed new build detached house. Our builder is recommending aluminium window frames & also for our bi-folding doors. Is aluminium a better material for us, than UPVC, and what is the life-span of each?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

My advice to you would be to go for aluminium. A little more expensive than pvc but a far better choice with options for different colours.
A must when having bi - folding doors ( no expansion problems )
Energy ratings, security just as good

Yes if you want to live in an Audi A8. In a house you should go for timber windows and doors to be ecofriendly. :) If the timber is treated and cared will last forever.
