Central Heating

central heating only works if move three port valve arm myself

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

Hi, hope you can help. My central heating will only work if I move the three port valve arm myself - then heating is fine and the boiler fires up, then I can turn off by the room thermostat and on again and do the same with the programmer but once off for a while, the arm on the port valve returns and will not work again to fire up the boiler. By the way the hot water is fine, I have also changed the synchron motor but still no joy and rewired the central heating, I'm being told it could be the thermostat in the boiler (Ideal icos HE28) is this true or should I just pack my bags and move out?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It is nothing to do with the thermostat, has this fault just happened? If so I would replace the valve also double check the wiring. There are switches in the valve that only operate when the valve moves across, as happens when you move it manually.

If on a 3 port valve the lever feels stiff while sliding to manual and comes back on its own then the valve is fine if not change the synchron ** sorry did not read your statement obviously..you have already changed the synchron, why not call a professional - obviously seems like wiring is suspect
