Decommissioned back boiler and still use original fire
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.00 PM
Have the regulations changed in the last few months regarding decommissioning a back boiler and still using the gas fire as an alternative source of heat? After having had a combi boiler fitted we want to use the original gas fire from the old back boiler - is this still possible?

The regs have never changed. As long as back boiler has been de-commissioned and made safe including all associated heating pipework and the flue way can safely discharge products of combustion to atmosphere from the existing gas fire. This involves a Gas Safe engineer properly surveying the appliance to ensure it meets current safety standards and legislation, this requires observation, possible rectification work and certain essential tests.

yes it is possible if your Gas Safe engineer tells you so and issue you with a Landlord Certificate...
But usually if it is decommisioned then it remain so....
