Problem with not being paid - dry rot issue found towards end of job upon closer inspection
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.57 PM
Any advise would be great, just almost finished a job came to a last section of wooden paneling and which only needed a coat of paint, took a good look at it and closer inspection it had dry rot. Told the customer, she now has to wait for for someone from the council to replace the paneling. Would it be too unreasonable to ask for 90% of payment bearing in mind it's almost done? God knows when the wood's going to get done and I need to move on to the next job, and yes she's very happy with the work. Any help thanks!

I would bill her for the full amount, it's not your fault the job stopped so close to the end. Tell her you will come back at a later date to finish the work.

Since you were kind enough to point it out to your customer is great, I would have done the same, so I don't think it is to unreasonable to ask for your payment. Come to an agreement with your customer so you will come back and fix work at a later date - council inspections can take months. JPdecor. Good luck.
