Damp Proofing

Extension built without waterproof membrane and damp is now rising

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

Can someone give me some guidance please. I employed a builder to build an extension, however he unfortunately did not lay a water proof membrane on the floor and the breeze blocks he used were thin and there are no cavity. The damp is rising. Is there a solution to this problem without knocking the extension down and starting again. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi you can have a D.P.C installed just like you would if you had a old property with no D.P.C the floor can be tanked like you would tank a basement wall.

Hi there You need to have a damp survey and you should be able to have a chemical damp proof course injected to stop any rising damp in the block work and the floor treated. But you will need someone to survey the problem to give you the right solution - a pca accredited surveyor crst would be the best, you will probably have to pay for this. Regards Joseph

Inject the walls with damp course, also be worth putting on platon on the walls at a metre in height (special platon for damp proofing in other words what's used to tank out cellars before renovating into a room). Hope this helps without viewing it. Gareth at A1 PROPERTY MAINTENANCE (ROTHERHAM)
