Electrician left holes in ceilings and fitted wonky spotlights

I've just had an electrician come and do some work for me, he says he's done but he's left me with multiple holes in two ceilings, fitted wonky spotlights (that I didn't want in the first place, he got muddled up with what I asked for), the spotlights in one room won't switch on so I'm going to have get someone else in to tell me what the prob is and fix it and I'll have get a plasterer in to fix the holes. I've also been round the house and none of the power points work and most are wobbly. He wants paying and I really don't know what to do. Can anyone offer me any advice?
Hello there, thank you so much for your comments. So the latest is that after the 'partial rewire' I've had 3 electric shocks from the walls upstairs, the electrics in the house didn't trip and the fuse box is marked completely incorrectly so when I thought I'd manually switched the power off to the sockets and lights, I hadn't (when I got another electric shock!) I did ring him and he told me to go see a solicitor. So two more questions, he didn't fit the fuse box but should he have checked it was OK when he did the rewire? And is there anything I can do to complain, I don't know much about electricity but I do know it's dangerous, I don't think his work is quite up to scratch (and he obviously doesn't care!) and wouldn't want him to hurt anyone in the future on another job.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Tell him you are not going to pay him the work he has done is not fit for purpose & you will now have to pay to put it right, make sure you use a niceic registered electrician
Hope this is helpful.
Kind regards
Kevin Lockett
Did he give you a certificate and has he registered the job with building control? If not then DON'T PAY, as he has broken the law and you as the householder could be liable for a £5000 fine.

In my opinion i would ask the electrician who installed your electrics to put right what you're unhappy with, as a qualified electrician and business man he should have a duty to give the customer what they ask for. I know you may not be happy with him returning but he should have at least the opportunity to put things right. If he refuses to do so, then tell him you will get someone else to put right what he done wrong and only give him the remaining balance he quoted. With regards to the ceiling holes, I would see what he intends to do about it as you wasn't advised this would happened.
Hope this helps!!!

Good Evening.
In my opinion what you need to do is get a new electrician to quote for the work then deduct this from what the poor electrician's bill is, then if there is a difference then tell the poor electrician what you have done and pay him that. If he wants to then take it further, you're in the right under the consumer rights act. Please research these - good bit of legal information. I may be then tempted to report him to trading standards for someone for them to investigate.
Hope this info helps

Onto your new point you could take him to court. You may be able to speak with trading standards on this matter. I would also consider publishing this as much as you can.
Contact watchdog (rogue traders) for them to investigate. Most importantly you need to get your property safe. I would use My Builder to ask for another electrical company to come out inspect the work. If the company were anything like mine, we would help in any way possible. If you contact the trading standards office for advice, you will be entitled to some sort of compensation. What this electrician has done is take advantage and put people's life in danger. He should have checked all his work as it comes under notifiable works. Check with the NICEIC or NAPIT or ELECSA to see if he is registered with them if not then he is a dangerous tradesman and must be stopped.
Good luck.
