Can one tradesman cover lots of tyoes of work?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.45 PM

We have a list of jobs to be done on our house including replacing the flat roof, new driveway, replace facias etc, boxing in pipes, securing loose bricks on a wall, plasterboarding a utility room and replacing lino. Are their companies that will do all the jobs for you, should we bundle them up or just look for individual trades people? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Some of the larger companies will have all these tradesmen in house but may be more expensive than finding the individuals to carry out the work.

Hi, Using 3-5 different tradesmen can become a little bit of a nightmare as some times you need one job done before another or at the same time. We are a renovation specialist so have 26 fully qualified tradesmen that can and will work around and with each other so that it all comes together correctly and at a suitable times scale. We often find that we are able to provide a cheaper price to the customer as we have less labours on site and provide project management free of charge. I hope that this is helpful to you but please beware of the "jack of all trades" type of guy who claims he can do anything, they normally can sort of but to a poorer standard. All the best Jeremy

There are tradesmen that specialise in many different trades. I would think it would be easier to look for one person than having loads of different ones.

I disagree, if you use a general builder to do a flat roof it will not be completed as good as a flat roofer who has the skills and materials to hand. Larger companies generally sub out parts of the work - ask yourself - who guarantees this work and who will fix the problems 5 years down the line? What is the saying - Jack of all trades - Master of none! Post separate ads and get advice in the relevant fields.
