what type of insulations and plasterboard to put on a commercial propery ceiling

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

Hi we need to put up a new ceiling the first floor is a shop/cafe and above is a flat. we are planning to put rockwool slabs inbetween the joists for sound and insulation then on top we were going to do one layer sound board and one layer fire board - is this the best approach or should we just do 2 layer fire board with the rockwool, or would one layer fireboard be ok?? Please help , as very confused!

As far as I know, you need to provide a sealed fire break. A single layer of fire board would suffice as long as all board edges are sealed with the correct fire resistant sealer, If no sealer is used a skim coat would meet regulations. I would continue with your original plan, but include a way of sealing the fire board. the sound board and insulation would be more for your benefit, but I would think as well worth the extra. hope this is a help, but if you want to be sure, contact your local counsel for latest regulations applicable to your building.
