Can you replace odd roof tiles from beneath, within the loft

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

I have an end of terraced house with a few split tiles. Most of the area viewed from the loft just has a thin layer of ply between the loft area and the tiles, but shocking as it may seem, some areas having nothing and you can see the bare tiles. If the tiles are easy to get to, can I just replace the odd ones crumbling from inside the loft itself ? If I have to access from outside and use scaffold, that only gets me to the guttering. As it's an end of terraced house, the roof at the side is pitched and triangular. A roof ladder would therefore not latch onto anything, as the roof comes to a point. I just wondered what you would use. A harness and rope around the chimney stack ? As ADR said, 70 years is a good lifespan, so it's probably a new roof. I thought i'd just ask out of curiosity.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

These tiles are likely to be 6x9" Rosemary's. my advice would be not to even attempt to fix broken ones as you will open a massive "can of worms". They will break even when trying to get to them. New roof I'd suspect

No you cannot fit roof tiles from the inside to access the roof you use a scaffold and if they are in that bad a condition it might be time to replace the roof, 70 years is a good life span. You can use a ladder from the scaffolding platform to be able to access the part of the roof you require or as you now have a platform if the pitch is not steep walk up it.

Unfortunately roof tiles cannot be replaced from inside. I'd tend to agree with AGL above. 70 years is more than enough time for any roof, especially if it has clay rosemary's on it and it sounds like they have "blown". There is obviously no felt on the roof either so it looks like you are going to need a new roof.
