Hello, I am putting down a 5-6 sq. m brick patio at our back door, where there is an existing concrete slab. It's only for sitting outside, no heavy traffic etc. My issue is, the patio will go beyond the edge of the slab. The ground is firm soil, I have dug down six inches or so. Do I need to lay a new concrete slab over a sub-base on the soil to extend the existing slab, or can I bring the sub-base of hardcore to the level of the existing slab before putting down sand, mortar, bricks over the lot. I'm getting a compactor in. I'm not worried about doing the work, I don't want half the patio settling lower in a few months, but equally if I really don't have to, I don't want to. Many thanks in advance, Jon
Hi Jon. Its fine to bring the sub-base up to the current concrete level and then lay your paving. Just make sure it's type 1 mot so you don't have any voids, and as you mention wacker it. Rick
