How do I remove carpet if there is fitted furniture on top of it?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.59 PM
I had a wardrobe fitted in an already-carpeted room and now I have to take up the carpets myself before a new carpet is fitted. Help!
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi msallon,
I'm guessing you have two options:
Quick but nasty: Using a stanley knife, cut the carpet around the furniture, remove carpet
Properly: If it's a fitted wardrobe, it will be fixed to the wall from within. You should be able to unsecure it from the wall once fixings are removed, and remove the whole wardrobe.
This is my advice, based on the information you've provided.
Good luck.

Use a sharp Stanley knife and cut around the base of the wardrobe as close as is possible, When the new carpet is fitted the fitter will need to fasten some new gripper rods around the wardrobe

The carpet has to be cut from around the base of the fitted furniture so that it can be removed. The old carpet will need to remain under the fitted furniture. New carpet can then be fitted up to the base of the fitted furniture using new gripper rods.
