Conservatories

WHS Halo conservatory - is this a good make and how much should I pay

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.44 PM

Hi there - we are looking to get our 20 year conservatory (plastic roof) pulled down, and a new one with better heat retention, glass roof put in - at the say time as extending it and knocking through to our kitchen/dinner and putting bifold doors in. The company who are going to do our kitchen use a builder who will also do the conservatory. He has quoted £26,400 (inv VAT) to pull down old, and put in new (longer, therefore new footings) one about 2.6m * 11m in size... lean-to, glass roof, electrics, plastering/decoration, underfloor heating ((devimat) , + knock through into dining room and put in UPVC bifold doors at 2.6m wide. only thing quote doesn't include is laying tiled floor. Has said will use WHS/Halo profile system for conservatory. Some questions: a) does this seem a reasonable price b) is WHS/Halo a good make c) we are looking for something good quality, that is as a good as possible at not letting heat out and therefore keeping as warm as can. what questions should we be asking on spec - i.e. what glass thickness, gas filled, etc etc should we be asking about to make sure we get a really good quality job done... thanks in advance.

Hi There, Builders do not fit conservatories they build with bricks Important thing's to be aware of Footings depth Brick cavity size Insulated floor and make up size Keyed brickwork into existing Conservatory frame Whs halo is the profile manufacturer not the frame maker. Check ? What Roof manufacturer / supplier What glass type Bi Fold doors need a proper/ sufficient lintle otherwise you will have big problems. Pvc moves about in heat so a better option would be aluminium which are available in any colour, there stronger and importantly they can have a very low threshold unlike pvc check what guarantees are on offer and offered by Installer or manufacturer. Without knowing the overall size of the new conservatory hard to say if price is reasonable or not ? If the the size is 11m x 2.5m I' d say a little expensive regards John

All reputable companies offer a guarantee. Ours is at least 10 years depending on the manufacturer of the units etc.. Ask for references. Speak to customers of the firm who have had work done. This should not be an issue because all good firms have happy customers. Regards All Seasons Group Ltd
