Orange peel effect on walls
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.56 PM
I applied a base coat to two walls and then emulsioned them with dulux matt. It has left awful orange peel effect. Maybe I should have thinned the emulsion for the first coat? How can I put it right please? Will it be a long process? Thanks.

Hi, you need to sand the walls down, it's only Matt emulsion so it shouldn't be that hard to sand, you need to use a Dulux Trade Matt emulsion or for a better flat finnish Dulux Trade Diamond Matt emulsion, which is more durable & washerble & you need to apply it with a short pile roller sleeve, you can even layer it off with a brush after rolling it, but you will have to work very quickly. Hope this helps.

Hi Marb
Sanding down is the only way but not to hard to get the wall smooth again. For new plaster we all ways thin down the first coat quit a bit so it sinks into the plaster and then maybe just a little for subsequent coats It sounds like you have not rolled the paint out enough and or the paint is a bit thick try thinning the paint out slightly and then when applying the paint by roller spread it out no paint is better then another for finish it is how you put it on any brand paint when applied by a roller will leave an orange peel effect as brushes leave lines it just depends on how you feel about it. Personally as a professionall painter i would not use a short pile roller as you will have to work quick it does not hold enough paint and will probably leave you walls streaky.
good luck and hope this helps
