Painting over bitumen

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

I need advice on a problem in my cellar. Tradesman has advised me to use bitumen paint on the tiled cellar floor, for damp proof and durability. However, this paint is coming off on shoes when walking on it. So I have re painted it and used pva over the top. This has lessened the peeling off, but not stopped it completely. Rather than having to scrape this work up is there anything that I can use over the top to stop this once and for all. I have been advised at B&Q that floor paint will work over the pva - many thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi efcbluegirl To seal over the floor now you have bitumen on it i would use an aluminium wood primer sounds strange i know but this will hold back any staining from the bitumen then apply your topcoats. Hope this helps Alex Berry
