Overflow pipe running but no cold water tank

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.58 PM

Our overflow pipe at the top of the house (near gutter) is running/dripping. Thing is we cannot locate a cold water tank and believe we don't have one as 1. we have a loft conversion and no room for one, 2. we have a glow worm combi condenser boiler in the cellar. The boiler has it's own water tap and it has a little overflow for the exchange and a large hot water cylinder at the side of it. What can be causing this problem with the overflow pipe? With all the snow we've had is it just ice melt getting into the pipe? All our taps, radiators and toilets are working fine but am worried that there is a problem..

You state you have a 'loft conversion' do you have a W.C installed in the loft conversion? If so then the cause may be the over flow from the W.C cistern!

To alleviate the problem you can change the syphon fitted in the W.C. which will then give the Ballcock the opportunity to overflow into the W.C. bowl and be visible. The diagphram washer is worn causing it to pass the seal and build up in the Cistern and then overflow.
