Chimney vent and electric fire suite confusion, help please

We had an old back boiler and gas fire removed. Gas is now cut off and pipes sealed. Left with the hole In The wall which starts about 8inches above the skirting. We want an electric fire suite but if we have to have a vent if the hole is blocked up won't this be covered by the new suite and if so what is the point of venting? I'm confused so any help appreciated.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Any chimney that is no longer in use needs to breath or vent, so a vent cap needs to be fitted to the chimney pot and a vent above the skirting with a louvred grille fitted would be fine and even if the electric suite goes up against it the chimney will still be able to breath as the electric suite is not going to cut the air circulation off completely.

I would imagine that for your new suite to sit flush to the wall (assuming it's not a chimney breast) you will to cut out the skirt to the correct width so this will give you some more tolerance for a vent. Maybe recess the vent behind the suite or fit a vent trim between the suite and back plate/wall similar to a soffit vent.
