Why do some of my halogen bulbs not work as soon as I put the covers back on.
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.58 PM
I have a 10 bulb halogen ceiling light with light bulb glass covers like chillies. One by one they decide they are not going to work although the bulbs are still OK. Usually when I take the covers off they come on but the minute I start to put the covers back on then that's it. End of light. I now have a light fitting out of which only 3 bulbs are deciding to stay on. Very annoying. Any ideas anyone?

Its a poor contact where the pins on the bulbs push into the individual bulb holders. Its normally damage caused by heat thats cuasing the poor connection. Due to the time that it would take to strip down the fitting and rewire/replace the bulb holders its likely to be more economical to buy a new light fitting.

Hello hausjac; The problem is loose connections - the possible scenarios are that when the glass is screwed on tight it brakes the connection try loosening off the glass a bit... or the terminals where the lamp meet the light fitting are too big and not making correct contact.
Unfortunately there isn't an easy straight forward answer (without seeing the light fitting) - so good luck
