Lights in front room can the wires be extended?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.44 PM

Hello, There are 4 lights in our front room 2 on each main wall opposite each other. We are having the front room re-plastered one of the walls is in a bad condition so a builder is putting studs to the main wall then plaster boarding to the studs. This will mean that the 2 lights on the wall the wires from the light to the terminal block will be to short is there anyway of extending these wires? I.e....Could i run wires from the terminal block thats in place now add a new terminal block then connect the lamp wires into the new terminal block?? 1) I hope this makes sense 2) I hope some can help. Cheers

Hi, you should have access to the terminal block, so It wouldn't be a proper job. The best option for you would be to get Hagger maintenance free junction boxes for lighting circuits and extend those circuits through those boxes, or use crimping tool and connect extension cable through crimps. I would recommend to you Hagger maintenance free boxes. However if you don't feel confident - ask an spark to do it - it will be few quid job ;)

The best way is to use butt (through) crimps to extend each of the conductors. These are much cheaper and simpler than maintenance free jumction boxes.
