Leaking shower?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.56 PM

I recently had my shower replaced because there was a leak into the kitchen below which has ruined the kitchen ceiling. The shower was replaced and apparently all the water had pooled into a bowl underneath the shower however all of the shower walls needed retiling and grouting. This seems to have been ok for about 6 months and then this morning there was water on the kitchen floor and the ceiling seems a bit damp... It is also coming through where the light fitting is. Any ideas what the problem could be as Im really concerned :-(

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, It can be leaking pipe for water supply to you shower (not good connection), leaking waste pipe or what happen very often, shower tray and tiling work is`t done how should be. This is very important part of the shower because when you using shower every day or twice peer day this part of the shower MUST be waterproof.

Sounds to me like they haven't sealed it properly. When you fit a shower you must silicone the tray to the walls with a good quality silicone and use lots of it, then seal again when its tiled to make a water tight connection. To stop the shower tray sinking I always fix batons underneath the shower tray to stop the shower tray sinking and cracking the silicone.
