Can electric hob be placed next to a wall

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.58 PM

Replacing current kitchen where the electric hob is at the end of a run. To its left there is plenty of worksurface but to the right there is a 30cm wall then a narrow piece of worksurface (ie remaining wall from when kitchen was knocked through. Having a new kitchen and been told building regs may not allow it to be put there (this is really the only place it fits). Is this true? Thought this only applied to gas hobs. Added following receipt of an answer: Don't think they are correct as different manufacturers see to specify different distances. Looked online at installation instructions for the ceramic hob I want to buy and it just mentions distance from back wall, not from a side wall. The other one I'm looking at says 50mm gap to wall. So I guess I'm fine if I buy one of these as they will be installed to manufacturers instructions which override any building regs (not that there seem to be any on this matter.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

"Yes" I'm afraid the person who told you it's not to regs is right, if you look in the handbook which is supplied with appliance, it will give you guidance on how to install the hob. If you don't have the guidance book, call the manufacturer they will give you the answer...

Hi always follow manufacturers fitting instructions in that way if any problems they are liable not you, it is a rule all electricians abide by, Also your isolation switch has to be within 2mtrs of appliance. Kind regards. Kevin
