    Front extension to chalet bungalow
    This was our email to him voicing our feelings: Before we continue with the re-application with yourself, could you please highlight what from the below is included in the total price of £xxxx that you are now quoting us for: (we listed the process and asked to clarify) In your initial message to me on MyBuilder.com you said that you "would be happy to sit down with you to go through what you have in mind and offer advice on the best possible schemes". We feel that you have not advised us properly as two storey front extension would never be allowed in our area (which was clear from the planning officer Paul's messages and another architect, that we seeked advice from, straight away said when he came to see us, that such extension would not be allowed due to how our neighborhood looks like). Therefore we feel now that we have paid you the £780 for a clear refusal of the application and we feel that you took on the job knowing well that it would not be approved (or if you did not know that, then you have misled us saying that you "have recently successfully completed many similar jobs in our area for very pleased clients"). His reply did not clarify any of the points of what would be included in the price and he just defended himself in a way that did not reassure us at all. so we decided not to continue with him and paid more to a different architect. Our overall opinion: he can draw you a castle if you would like one, no matter that it will not be approved.

    Answer from tradesperson:

    When visiting site for the first time I always offer my advice on the best schemes, I also state that planning permission is not always 100% guaranteed, especially on a proposed extension to the front of a dwelling. This was clearly explained at the very start, I also explained that if the planning officer had any issues I would spend as much time as needed (at no extra cost) to work with the planning officer to revise the scheme so I can get something approved. On this occasion I did this, I spent extra time working with the planning officer to try to get an approval. No revised scheme could be agreed with the applicant. I understand its frustrating when a planning application is refused, I cant guarantee an approval. If there was 100% no chance of an approval on this application the planning officer and I would not have spent extra time looking at and offering other designs/schemes to the applicant. I have certainly fulfilled my obligations (and more) on this job. Thanks Jason

    Kitchen/dining area extension - single storey at rear
    Jason has been great! He sent a very detailed response to my initial post and has been extremely proactive in getting the drawings to us in only 2 weeks from his visit. He offered good advice and ideas in his initial visit without making us feel as though we were being pushed into anything we didn't want. He has been patient in waiting for responses but always replies punctually to any emails. He was also happy to tweak things before we made the final decision. I would definitely recommend Jason to anyone looking for an architect.

    First floor extension over 1970s ground floor extension
    So Far so good. Planning application submitted. Await to hear then possibly some amendments needed but otherwise on to building regs. Jason quickly picked up the brief and produced the submission for approval. I initially felt Yarm would be geographically to far but Jason proved he can be on site and distance hasn't proved to be a handicap. So I would recommend you try Jason even if its not local to get a good job done.

    Extension of kitchen into garage
    Jason has been a star! He contacted me straight away and was incredibly punctual with drafts and communication. He was patient with all my questions and offered advice and reassurances at every stage. I would highly recommend him.

    Plans for a single story extension
    Jason has done some great drawings for my mother-in-laws extension. He's very quick to communicate back whilst still being patient waiting for responses. I would definitely recommend his services.

    Double storey extension - July 2018
    We got there in the end but it took longer than it should have done and there were some worrying points along the way. He turned up quickly enough, had what looked like ready plans within days, which involved many false steps that were mostly due to a lack of attention to the requirements - he didn’t seem to have taken any notes. Unfortunately these plans turned out to be unsuitable and incomplete, requiring a redraw and resubmission after submission to comply with council specifications. We were surprised when this happened because we expected better from an experienced architect - in our opinion he should have been able to produce compliant drawings and make a complete submission the first time. As the appointed agent he also should have been able to respond to the council’s request by simply going online to secure the missing documents which he needed to amend those incomplete plans at a negligible cost without involving us. All this resulted in an unexpected 2+ week delay that was further compounded when Jason disappeared for 4 days without notifying us the minute that we made the payment, a situation which left us worrying that we had been scammed because we were unable to reach him by any means. We never received an invoice or receipt for this job. Jason’s quote wasn’t the cheapest by any measure but we chose to pay the extra couple of hundred pounds because he promised to be the most effective and efficient. From our experience we would not recommended them.

    Answer from tradesperson:

    This Feedback is complete fabrication. I successfully obtained the planning approval on this job. I will breakdown the dates and explain. Thursday 7th June - Initial Site meeting. Tuesday 12th of June - Drawings completed and ready to submit to planning dept. Tuesday 12th of June - Receipt of fee payment Sent to the Client. Thursday 14th of June - Planning Application submitted to Birmingham Council. Friday 7th of September - Planning approval obtained. After the initial site meeting I completed the drawings within 3 working days, the planning application was submitted within 5 working days, the reason for the 2 day delay on the submittal was that I was on holiday, this was explained to the client. I was on holiday yet I was still happy to communicate with the client on this job. After it took me only 5 working days to submit the application the council took 2 weeks longer then expected to return a positive decision. I was in touch with the planning officer (Caroline Featherston) throughout the application, after each contact with Caroline Featherston I emailed the client with an update. The reason for the small delay on the decision was an issue that the applicants property shared a boundary with Network Rail, I pre-empted this potential issue and explained as such during the first site meeting. I have 100s of very happy clients that are very impressed with the way I work.

    Plans drawn for a single storey extension
    Jason has been great at communicating throughout the planning process for our rear extension. Extremely fast response to emails and to making amendments to the layout. We’re really happy with the service so far.
