Repair and paint a wooden Victorian front door
Darren and his helper took the door off to carry out the refurbishment on site (on the pavement in front of the house) and seem to have done a good repair job. The door had a couple of cracks in the panels, and some damage to mouldings, which were repaired. They put the door back on again in the evening, which was a good way to do it, rather than have the expense of a temporary door and the door taken away to repair.
The improvement to the door function and appearance is excellent.
One problem which was not resolved is that some of the new paint on the door, where it comes into contact with the frame, peeled off as soon as the door was closed and reopened. Darren said to leave the door for a couple of hours as the top layer of paint was still tacky. We left it for much longer than that before eventually closing it, when we had to, that night. The problem seems to be that the final coat of paint was rushed, applied too early before the layer below had properly cured- as a result the paint peeled off down to the undercoat. When told about this Darren said to patch it up ourselves (he had left the almost empty paint can with us for touching up the paint if necessary). As the damage was a line of peeled off paint, down to the white undercoat, showing up clearly through the dark blue top coat, from top to bottom of our large door, I do not think this was acceptable.
Overall a good job, somewhat spoiled by a hurried finish.
