Review left on 9 May 2015Rating: 1 out of 5front garden paving and fence erection
Russel did a terrible job on our front garden. No membrane under the bricks so plants are poking through. The wall he built has lost about an inch of mortar to the weather in the last year. It looks like there is nearly no cement in the mix, just pure sand, you can easily scrape it out with your finger. Surely a good mortar mix is one of the most basic skills in building? After 2 months of unanswered calls, unreturned messages and unbelievable excuses he came round and agreed this was the problem, but he said he'd repoint it and scraped about 5mm of the sand out. I'm no builder but i dont see how 5mm of mortar is going to stop his bodgy wall from falling down. 2 grand wasted on a really bad job. Looking down at some of your other feedback I can see these problems have happened to your other customers. Dont bother to come back Russell we will get a proper tradesman to do the job properly. If you are thinking of hiring Russell why dont you email me benjogrando@hotmail.com first and I will send you some pictures of his terrible workmanship.Review from nic_18, Redhill nic_18, Redhill
Review left on 27 Apr 2015Rating: 1 out of 5replace 16m of fenceRussell's was the best of 5 designs by experienced tradesmen who quoted to replace my fence. Unfortunately, I should never have chosen him to actually do the actual work. He seemed very busy, as he spent only one day on the job, instead of the two days he initially quoted. Perhaps I should not have paid him anything until he returned to complete the job, as he promised over and over (I have a SMS conversation with him, stretching back over a year). He always had a fresh excuse for not arriving to do the work: traffic queues, family problems, his friends and/or family in hospital, himself in hospital, too much other work, unreliable workers, rain, his van "off the road", traffic delays, etc. Over the past year, he always promised to complete the job "next week" or "next month", or similar. He has never done any of the remedial work he agreed and repeatedly promised to do. He seems a personable, friendly guy, with excellent design skills. However, I could never recommend him to anyone, as he has proved many, many times over the past year to be completely unreliable. What a pity to waste his talent!Review from Customer of Rightway Driveways Customer of Rightway Driveways
Review left on 16 Mar 2015Rating: 3 out of 5Pave garden 15m x 5m
The job was done quickly but the pointing was sub-standard between the tiles. Initially cement and sand was used but this all deteriorated after a few days of rain. Was told by Russell to use a resin compound which I had to buy and then pay extra to be applied but this has also not been done to a professional standard and there are many tiles with little to no compound applied. In fact in some cases the original cement/sand was not removed and the compund has just been thinly applied over the original pointing. Also, He took the remaining compound (four whole tubs) even though I had paid for them. When I phoned him and told him to return them He said he would drop them off by the end of the week. Haven't heard from him since.Answer from tradesperson:
it is very difficult to get a pointing compound to be stable between a soft play area and paving as the soft play area has a lot of movement and the paving is solid as for the resin compound there was 2 tubs left which I still have and totally forgot about I will hold my hands up to that and will drop them off as soon as possible

Hired Russell to dig 9 metre trench for laying armoured cable and did great job, very accomadating and helpful. Russell even helped dig up small area of concrete for the electrician while he was here, and didn't charge any extra for this. Really good service and really good worker. I'd definitely use him again for this kind of work and recommend him to others. Thanks again Russell.Review from Customer of Rightway Driveways Customer of Rightway Driveways

I hired this Russ with his reasonably low quote compared to others. As the work progressed, I changed the design so it cost bit more money and more work which resulted in delay of our work. I gave all my money trusting he would complete the work. Though the work was delayed bit, he completed the work as promised with good quality of work. Therefore, I would recommend him if you want to hire as a trustworthy person you can trust him.Review from Customer of Rightway Driveways Customer of Rightway Driveways

DO NOT EMPLOY THESE COWBOYS. I have been left £5000 out of pocket because Russell Hughes of Rightways Driveways and his team are completely incompetent. All the work they did is currently being redone and I have had three independent firms assess the work and all said it was not fit for purpose and broke building regulations in numerous areas. I have called trading standards and I am taking Russell to court to recoup my money. Please contact me at hill_t at hotmail dot com if you want to see the evidence. All the wrong materials were used, everything was wonky and they simply did not have a clue what they were doing. I am so astounded at the good reviews and can only assume their friends put them on. Everything they did cracked, broke and was left half done. Fence posts wobbled, retaining walls were not built on concrete footings and were done using flimsy breezeblocks, the patios were laid on sand causing all the slabs to come loose and wobble, the patio and drive undulated and the patio had to be relaid three times as it was so slopey, garden step treads were 25 cms high and 25 cms deep, much too steep, the step treads were lethally slippery paving stones not fit for purpose. I could go on and on. On top of their incompetence they were rude and vulgar to our neighbours, left the house a mess, threw all the garden rubble behind my neighbours fence, in the 5th week of a 2-3 week job I had to tell them to stop before they did more damage. TRULY AWFULAnswer from tradesperson:
customer choses the wrong materials for the desired look the customer was advised not to have sand blasted paving for the steps as they are slippery when wet but still insisted on having them concrete blocks were used not breeze blocks the customer decided to drive on the driveway the day after it was laid indian sand stone driveway this shouldn't have been driven on for at least 10 days the steps was the customers design and to the customers specifications the customer kept changing there mind and refused to listen to advice all my feed back is genuine I HAVE NEVER BEEN RUDE TO CUSTOMERS OR ANYONES NEIGHBOURS I have not been taken to court I am a genuine person I should have walked away from this job on day one
