Leaking roof suspected gully fault
My fault, took first reply without getting a proper quote or other quotes. Billy came and I told him where the Leak was so he didn’t need to look for it. He said £360 there and then, pricey but wanted fixing before it rained again.
He said the ridge tiles on extn. and garage needed doing. I wasn’t sure but I said role it all together for a price. He quoted £920, I said I thought £800 and settled on £820.Thinking about it I knew I had made a mistake and was paying more than I should for this but we had made an agreement and Billy and his labourer had started. (and I thought they were relaying ridge tiles, my mistake again!)
4 hours later Billy said was all finished and sent me his bank details. I said Billy, in view of the time the work took would he consider renegotiating on the price as I thought £205 an hour was a bit excessive?
He said no I had agreed £820 and he thought it was a fair price. I said did he usually earn £205 an hour, and he said he had overheads. So fair enough I agreed to the price, but the feedback wouldn’t be great. He said it will be negative then and I said it would be, but the exact truth! He offered to knock off £70 but I said I’d rather leave the negative feedback. He was polite and apologetic even so.
I might be wrong about going rates now, but I think £160 an hour is good money for pointing even on a roof. ( 640 for 4 hrs work) I paid Billy the full price (£820) as we agreed in the beginning. You must make up your own mind on this 🤡🤡
