I hired Home Decor Zone to fit my bathroom & kitchen last summer because it was a family firm & they had good feedback. They provided a clear, itemised quote so I could see what I was paying for. They turned up when they said they would & have a reasonable level of skill.
However, I found them difficult to work with, which was no one’s fault, we just didn’t communicate well. We often talked at cross purposes & had different expectations.
My dishwasher is at the end of a row of units & it broke as a result of a manufacturing fault (not HDZs fault). However, this highlighted that the end panel of my kitchen had not been properly fitted. HDZ had secured the panel by screwing it into the dishwasher. I should be able to remove an appliance without hiring a kitchen fitter. They refused to fix this without additional charge & just stopped answering my emails.
There are lots of little details that are just not good. The tiling is not symmetrical, they failed to grout 1cm of lies outside the shower screen (fixed), my vanity was built with the door (fixed) and base upside down, the toilet is off centre by a few mm, one of the kitchen doors doesn’t open properly etc.
Nothing is major & most people wouldn’t even notice, but I felt they often took the easy way out. Overall, while I accept that some of the problems were from us not developing a good client/contractor relationship, most were from poor attention to details. Key question, would I use them again? Probably not
