I will never ever hire this person again and I would like ask mybuilder.com to decide if to de-register him. Here are what I've been through from day one I met him.
It was agreed that he would lay laminate floor and floor tiles for my flat and his quote was 420 pounds. At the beginning he tried to persuade me only put 300 pounds on the webiste so that he can get 120 pounds in cash which I refused to. Qualification: the first time he viewed the job, he said to me he's a qualified plumber. I was a bit surspicious afterwards because his card didn't carry the GasSafety registration number and only mentioned about his NVQ qualification.
Punctuality: The first day he promised me he would be here by 8am, but he turned up nearly 10am. He said the traffic was terrible and he had to take his wife to work. Second day he came about 10am again and today he arrived at 20 to 11am.
VAT: Last night he asked me to pay VAT which he never mentioned before and he said because I told mybuilder.com the true figure, he had to pay them a fee, therefore he had to charge me VAT. I agreed to pay vat if necessary and in the presence of a VAT invoice.
I was out this afternoon to dump rubbish and he called me and asked me to get brown adhesive for beading instead of the white I'd already bought and told him we would use white from day one. I said we preferred white because we liked it. He said if you insisted on white, then he would not do the job. We spent almost half an hour arguing about this. In the end, I said to him it was my property and I decided which colour I wanted. He said if that's the case, then he would stop.
He asked me to pay him 300 pounds for the work he'd done. I insisted him to finish off the flooring. After he's done the work, I firstly gave him 200 pounds and asked for a receipt so that I can pay him another 100 pounds. He was getting very uncomfortable with this, he refused to give any receipt. In the end he gave in, but asked me to draft the receipt as he didn't know how to do it. I was writing up the receipt and asked for his full name which he refused to disclose. Signature: so the receipt was done and I asked for his signature and he wanted me to sign first. So I signed, then he refused to sign and asked for additional payment for VAT. I said you never mentioned about VAT for this 300 pounds and I would assume it's inclusive. He said if I wanted this receipt then I needed pay VAT on top. Again I asked for VAT number and his full name and he refused.
He didn't wish to leave and threatened me to rip off all the floors. So I had no choice but to call police.
After several rounds of conversation with police, he agreed to sign and told me his full name, I paid him 100 pounds.
The above are facts and are what I have been through in the past three days and it was a complete nightmare.
This man is very dishonest and is not a genuine person from my view.
