Ashley came out to quote for our job & after agreeing a cost we set a convenient start date. He called up one week before work was due to commence to confirm the start date & we had also provided some extra info from the kitchen supplier so that he could become familiar with the task at hand well in advanced of the start date.
The night before he was due to start, he texted to say he didn't have the correct equipment & in order to start the work needed an extra £200. After a call to fully understand the issue, it came to light that even if we were to accept the increased cost, he would still not be able to start the work on the agreed date. By his own admittance, he had said that he hadn't looked at the info that was supplied in advanced until the night before he was due to start, which suggests that if he had looked at it in time, we may have had somewhat of a chance to rectify the issue of lack of required equipment. The knock on effect of this disorganisation meant, due to Ashley being heavily booked, our job may be postponed from anywhere between 1-3 months. Although I hope it's not the case, it felt like we were pushed into a corner to try & absorb the extra cost at the very last minute, especially since we had already removed the existing kitchen & organised the first fix of the kitchen in prep for Ashley to start. Given the seemingly current unavailability of most recommended fitters, we are now potentially facing living without a kitchen for at least 2/3 months.
