The locksmith explained this to me before he had seen my door, so I wondered why he had made the trip. As I was up for the call out fee, I did ask him to take a look at the lock currently in the door because it was extremely difficult to lock. In the end, after trying a replacement lock - which was worse, and playing with the door alignment, he left me with the same problem. So I ended up paying for nothing. The locksmith was very polite and really tried to fix the issue, but clearly it was something that was not straightforward. Am now resigned to using the backdoor and not bothering with the front.
