This person came to my property to change the two port valve. He attempted to do it and left with my boiler not working (it was working before he came), which means no hot water and no heating. He also caused a short circuit while attempting to replace the valve and burned my thermostat. I am going to have to pay for all these repairs now. I am very disappointed because when seek help in this app at the very least you dont expect to be left worse than you were before.

Very Happy with the Service offered by David. Came to have a look on short notice and was ahead of the initial agreed time which is really helpful as I was looking for someone to have a look at the current hot water issue I have been having with my boiler and provide an immediate solution. Very Friendly and communicative about the problem and was around to see the issue has been definitely resolved before he left the place. No half measures at all. Very nominal from a pricing perspective as well. Would definitely make use of his services for future work and would recommend to everyone who is looking for a good professional who knows his job.

Questions to ask a gas engineer in Purley

Choosing the right gas engineer is essential, not just for quality but also for your safety. You can be sure you find a suitable gas engineer by asking the right questions.

Some key questions you should ask before hiring a gas engineer in Purley include:

Are you Gas Safe registered?

This is the most important question to ask. Only Gas Safe–registered engineers are legally permitted to carry out gas work in the UK. Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which lists the types of gas appliances they’re qualified to work on.

What experience do you have with this type of job?

Whether you need a boiler installation, central heating repair, or a gas safety check, look for someone who has completed similar work recently. Experience with your specific appliance brand or system can help avoid costly mistakes.

Can you provide a detailed written quote?

A professional gas engineer in Purley should offer a clear, itemised quote covering labour, parts, call-out fees, and VAT. This avoids unexpected costs and lets you compare prices easily between engineers.

Do you offer any warranty or guarantee?

Ask whether the engineer guarantees their workmanship and if the manufacturer provides a boiler or parts warranty. Many gas engineers in Purley back their work for 12 months or more.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Gas leaks and heating failures can happen at any time. Ask if the Purley gas engineer provides 24/7 emergency cover, and confirm how quickly they can attend.

What are your charges for emergency or out-of-hours work?

Many Purley gas engineers charge a higher rate for evenings, weekends, or emergencies. You should be aware of these rates in advance to avoid unexpected costs if something goes wrong outside normal working hours.

Will you provide a Gas Safety Record after the work?

For installations or inspections, your Purley gas engineer should issue a Gas Safety Record (CP12) confirming the appliance or system has been checked and meets legal safety standards. Be sure that the engineer you choose will do so, if required for the job.

FAQs: Frequently asked questions when looking for gas engineers in Purley

How do I check if a gas engineer is Gas Safe registered?

You can verify any gas engineer in Purley’s registration by visiting the Gas Safe Register website. You can also ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which shows their licence number and the types of gas work they’re qualified to carry out.

How long does it take a Purley gas engineer to install a new boiler?

A straightforward boiler replacement typically takes one to two days. More complex upgrades (like moving a boiler or updating pipework) may take longer.

Do I need a gas engineer in Purley to conduct an annual gas safety check?

Yes, it’s recommended for all homeowners and legally required for landlords. Annual checks keep appliances safe, efficient, and compliant with UK regulations.

Can I ask a plumber in location to work on gas appliances?

Only if they are Gas Safe registered. Some plumbers in Purley hold dual qualifications, but unless they appear on the Gas Safe Register, they cannot legally work on gas installations or appliances.
