Gas Work- 24 Mar 2022
Steve was fantastic, he came and quoted for the job and suggested a combi boiler instead of repairing the old unit (no other workman did this, yet it was the most economical and logical long term solution). He was easy to communicate with and efficient. He turned around the job in one day with an excellent result. The work was clean and tidy! We were so pleased. We will certainly be using him in the future and we would recommend his company to anybody else looking for a repair/replacement. Thank you Steve!

Central Heating- 11 Nov 2022
The radiators do not work , I asked him to refund or pay some money back .He refused outright! The boiler is leaking bucket full of water .He started by cutting pipes & removing the filter & putting a loop on it . He then told me to fill up the pressure up to 1 , I did this . By the next morning it leaks out all the water. He said it’s the value inside boiler & these stupid old boilers , you can’t get to the value . He wanted another £400 to repair it & then said £800 for a new one . He never told me to get a new boiler at the start , he told me after he had damaged it. He’s a cowboy ! he said he had nightmares , as he knew it was an issue now that the boiler was broken by him. He came back & put a stop end on the end of the overheating pipe as this didn’t stop the leak. I asked for a refund as has broken my boiler as it was working before he came . There was no leaks anywhere . It went from £60 to £180 .I paid him . He’s not a reasonable person , he told me to get another plumber . I feel he has scammed me of a lot of money & caused me a lot of stress & upset 😢 All he needs to do is refund my money as the central heating dosnt work & I have no heat & now I have a broken boiler . It’s not right, I was kind to him & gave him homemade apple pie & tea & we got on really well & I offered him more work. It’s wrong & he knows it, he’s ripped me off! He’s scammed me of £180 pounds . A good tradesman would refund me my money. I got no heat & a broken boiler .

Questions to ask a gas engineer in Norbury

Choosing the right gas engineer is essential, not just for quality but also for your safety. You can be sure you find a suitable gas engineer by asking the right questions.

Some key questions you should ask before hiring a gas engineer in Norbury include:

Are you Gas Safe registered?

This is the most important question to ask. Only Gas Safe–registered engineers are legally permitted to carry out gas work in the UK. Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which lists the types of gas appliances they’re qualified to work on.

What experience do you have with this type of job?

Whether you need a boiler installation, central heating repair, or a gas safety check, look for someone who has completed similar work recently. Experience with your specific appliance brand or system can help avoid costly mistakes.

Can you provide a detailed written quote?

A professional gas engineer in Norbury should offer a clear, itemised quote covering labour, parts, call-out fees, and VAT. This avoids unexpected costs and lets you compare prices easily between engineers.

Do you offer any warranty or guarantee?

Ask whether the engineer guarantees their workmanship and if the manufacturer provides a boiler or parts warranty. Many gas engineers in Norbury back their work for 12 months or more.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Gas leaks and heating failures can happen at any time. Ask if the Norbury gas engineer provides 24/7 emergency cover, and confirm how quickly they can attend.

What are your charges for emergency or out-of-hours work?

Many Norbury gas engineers charge a higher rate for evenings, weekends, or emergencies. You should be aware of these rates in advance to avoid unexpected costs if something goes wrong outside normal working hours.

Will you provide a Gas Safety Record after the work?

For installations or inspections, your Norbury gas engineer should issue a Gas Safety Record (CP12) confirming the appliance or system has been checked and meets legal safety standards. Be sure that the engineer you choose will do so, if required for the job.

FAQs: Frequently asked questions when looking for gas engineers in Norbury

How do I check if a gas engineer is Gas Safe registered?

You can verify any gas engineer in Norbury’s registration by visiting the Gas Safe Register website. You can also ask to see their Gas Safe ID card, which shows their licence number and the types of gas work they’re qualified to carry out.

How long does it take a Norbury gas engineer to install a new boiler?

A straightforward boiler replacement typically takes one to two days. More complex upgrades (like moving a boiler or updating pipework) may take longer.

Do I need a gas engineer in Norbury to conduct an annual gas safety check?

Yes, it’s recommended for all homeowners and legally required for landlords. Annual checks keep appliances safe, efficient, and compliant with UK regulations.

Can I ask a plumber in location to work on gas appliances?

Only if they are Gas Safe registered. Some plumbers in Norbury hold dual qualifications, but unless they appear on the Gas Safe Register, they cannot legally work on gas installations or appliances.
