FAQ: Common questions about Hive installation costs
How long does the hive installation process typically take, and does it affect the cost?
The installation of a Hive system usually takes about 60 minutes to 2 hours depending on the complexity of the setup and the existing infrastructure. Longer installation times may affect costs, especially if additional setup or configuration work is necessary.
Does the hive installation cost differ based on the type or size of my home?
Yes, the type and size of your home can impact the installation cost. Larger homes or homes with multi-zone heating systems may require additional components and more extensive setup, potentially increasing costs.
Are there any government incentives or rebates available for Hive installation?
In the UK, there are limited government incentives specifically for smart thermostat installations like Hive. However, you may find regional energy-efficiency grants or programs that could help reduce costs. It’s a good idea to check with the Energy Saving Trust or your local council.
How easy is it to install a Hive smart thermostat yourself versus hiring a professional?
Installing a Hive smart thermostat yourself is possible if you’re comfortable working with basic electrical components and following detailed instructions. The process involves switching off the power, removing your old thermostat, wiring the Hive receiver in its place, and then mounting the new thermostat, usually powered by batteries.

New socket
zee 16/07/2026 - 8.20 AM
I am looking for a qualified electrician to install a new double socket behind a wall-mounted TV in a second-floor bedroom. There are currently no sockets on the wall where the TV will be mounted. The nearest existing socket is on the adjacent wall near the window. The house was built in 2003, and I would like the cable routed through the loft if possible to minimise any damage, as the walls were only painted last year. I am looking for a neat, professional installation with no visible cables once the TV is mounted. Unless there are other options available

Help! Yes I’m a woman and a novice but I’m learning! Trying to change old two gang socket switches for more modern. When trying to attach faceplate, right screw tightens then spins. Now the blooming lug has fallen off! How can I repair this without having to change the back box. I think they were fitted in around 2007.
