Question 1

How do I know if a tree surgeon is qualified?

Accepted Answer

You can check if a tree surgeon is qualified by verifying their certifications, such as NPTC (City & Guilds), LANTRA Awards or Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor status. Always ask to see proof of qualifications and insurance.

MyBuilder also makes sure that all tradespeople, sole traders and companies, are qualified by obtaining certifications for regulated jobs or assessing their expertise through an online skills check.

Question 2

Should local tree surgeons have insurance?

Accepted Answer

Yes, reputable tree surgeons should have public liability insurance, typically covering £1 million to £5 million, to protect against accidents or damage to property. Always ask for proof of insurance before hiring.

Question 3

Do tree surgeons charge a call-out fee?

Accepted Answer

Some tree surgeons charge a call-out fee, especially for emergency work or small jobs. Always confirm pricing and whether a site visit is included in the quote before booking a service.

Question 4

Can tree surgeons work in the rain?

Accepted Answer

Tree surgeons sometimes work in light rain, but typically postpone jobs if the weather becomes unsafe. Wet conditions can make climbing and handling tools hazardous, with risks such as slipping on branches, unstable ground, and equipment malfunctions.
For basic tasks at ground level or planning meetings, light drizzle may not cause delays.
