Mr Barber of Period House Renovation Co Ltd was contracted to undertake two renovations and a new build project at a site in Winchcombe in June 2017. The projects had a comprehensive set of plans and a schedule of works drawn up by myself and architects, Coombes Everett. It soon became clear that Mr Barber didn't always use the plans and made basic mistakes, such as ordering and incorrectly installing steelwork. Mr Barber constantly sought to charge for variations to the work and failed to comply with his own contract. Costs soared. My client eventually lost confidence in Mr Barber, who initially had appeared trustworthy and sincere. In April 2018 after no projects were complete and having charged in excess of £65,000 for variation work which he refused to justify, Mr Barber demanded a further £4000k/week to continue the work, despite our full contractual compliance. My client refused to pay and Mr Barber alleged he had been 'assaulted', as reason to abandon the works. The client took Mr Barber to an RICS Adjudication and won her case. The award remains unpaid and PHRC Ltd now has a pending CCJ against it. My client appointed a new builder in May who has since rebuilt much of the new build property due to omission of damp proofing, and shoddy roof construction. Mr Barber is adept at manipulating people, several previous clients have informed us that they regard him as a cowboy builder.To date, Mr Barber fails to accept any defective work and even the RICS judgement.

Thanks Mike for completing splashback. After submitting, Mike came out assessed the work, provided tile recommendation, an also suggested where I can buy the tiles with discount from his account. Completed the job within time frame. I wanted some extra work done which he kindly did at no extra cost. I can see he takes pride in his work and aims to ensure customer happy with the work. If he is not great in certain trades then he will recommend other trades men in that speciality.

I work as a part-time property developer and I hired Cheltenham Tiling Services (Robert Gannon) to carry out a minor piece of work in my newly refitted kitchen using plain white tiles, about 6sqm in all. The quality of his finished work was astonishingly poor, it was hard for me to believe such a smorgasbord of problems could be created in a small space. Certainly inexcusable for an ‘advanced tiler’ who self-reported that he was happy with this outcome. The main areas of complaint were as follows; Missing grout between tiles and trim Ragged top edge of cut tiles left exposed underneath wall cabinets Silicone sealant smeared on worktop and tiles, and not properly smoothed through A couple of electrical sockets couldn’t be reinstated due to tiles having been laid too near the backbox Robert later acknowledged my complaints, claimed they were “simple oversights” and proposed to come back in future. I have no time in my schedule to accommodate his re-working efforts nor confidence in his ability to achieve a satisfactory outcome. My first sour experience on MyBuilder. Please consider carefully whether Mr Gannon’s low standards are appropriate for your project!

Mike and Carl did a fantastic job on our heritage building, repointing brickwork and reseating chimney stacks, fixing roof and ridge tiles, weather sealing the entire house with waterproof spray as well as re plumbing a leaky towel rail, always respecting the age and unique needs of the old building. Work was completed to a super standard and Mike was always professional, friendly and above all totally trustworthy, I knew we could rely on both of them not only to do a good job but to give us the most honest views. Not only would I highly recommend Mike and Carl at NWPM, I have already done so and he has completed bathroom and building work at 3 of our neighbours on our recommendation.
