Sam Gray Stonemasonry recently completed the picking and re-pointing with lime mortar of two external walls on my 200 year old red sandstone house. The fabric of the building had suffered damage from previous “repairs” made by builders who used cement based mortar and this had led to both crumbling of the stone and ingress of water. Sam and Raymond exhibited high levels of skill and care when carrying out the work and it was reassuring to observe the depth of knowledge that they have with regard to the maintenance of this type of building. Unlike some other tradesmen I have come across, Sam and Raymond were friendly and courteous throughout and their presence at our home over the course of the works was always a pleasure. Despite the poor condition of the walls which became more apparent as the old cement mortar was removed, the final cost and schedule were very close to the original estimate and although the guys were happy to offer advice and recommendations regarding the works, there was never any attempt to “up-sell” additions to the scope. I am extremely happy with the results, the appearance and integrity of repaired walls has been transformed and I will undoubtedly be using Sam Gray Stonemasonry to undertake the repairs required on the remaining external walls.

Josh and team did a fantastic job rebuilding three areas of a stone retaining wall, laying a patio with yorkstone paving slabs and laid the steps and stone risers. Yorkstone slabs are not easy to lay being not regularised with different depths/ thicknesses and he took great care and attention in laying them with the ‘nicer’ slabs in the right places on the patio and blending the stone in with the original wall. Very pleased with it and the area was left clean and tidy. Would certainly recommend.
