Anonymous user 8 September 2022 - 2.43 PM

Hi , I’m stuck , I have been sanding my skirting boards and the sanding has taken the paint off the edge of the skirting board However now when I repaint it , the paint just won’t cover the area, it’s literally the edge of the board Any advice? Please

Hello thank you for your question I would recommend to use a wood undercoat paint give it up to 4 hours to dry , then paint after with your gloss and that should do the job Many Thanks G.R.G Home Improvements

You’ve possibly removed the primer when you’ve sanded the skirting boards, you’ll need a suitable primer for your chosen finish and this should cure the issues your having. Kind regards John.

If it's a sharp edge on the wood it is a good idea to sand it slightly to soften the corner - surface tension can sometimes mean a water bourne paint can't sit thickly enough on that edge. Then as already stated above, use a primer on the bare wood followed by undercoat and finish coat.

It sounds like their is silicon on the skirting where the skirting meets the wall. If you are using a water based undercoat and gloss it wont adhere, you need to use Oil based paint.

as i would say you are probably using water based paint which does not cover problem areas you need to use a oil based primer on your edges
