Weeds through Membrane & Pebbles
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.55 PM
Hi all, I had my garden landscaped in March this year. I questioned the Landscaper as to weedkiller and was told it was not needed as they had removed the turf and weeds would not come throught he membrane that was laid before the pebbles were put on it. Well I have a fern type weed popping up all over in the same places as it was in the old Lawn. In spite of a visit and promises from the Landscaper to put strong weedkiller down, he is now ignoring my calls. Can anyone please recommend what I can maybe do myself to eradicate these weeds or will it need some proffessional intervention? Thanks

It is a common mistake that people make to assume that putting down a weed control fabric under gravel/pebbles will stop the weeds ,It will only slow the process down. What happens is that dirt and dust will settle in the gravel ,seeds will blow in and the weeds will grow on the membrane, or they can sometimes find a way through the membrane. The membrane can make matters worse if the weeds are left to grow then the roots and membrane become interwoven and you will end up taking the lot up.Your landscaper should have made this clear and I don't think you can expect him to keep coming over to put weed killer down.I find the quickest and cheapest way is to pull the weeds out as they appear Pete.
