Bath plug stuck down won’t release

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

I have a bath plug that you push down to put the plug in and supposed to be able to push and it will release the plug and drain the water, but the plug gets stuck down and water still remains and cannot drain. Why is it stuck? How can I release the plug?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Try and turn the plug anti clockwise using both hands. Push down and twist. Then try popping it up again. Repeat and repeat and if that frees it. These click down so attacking it with a knife or blade last, last option. Solution change it for a flip plug bath waste. These wastes always give trouble and get stuck in my experience.

It means this bath plug is blocked by some small particles of dust or sand. You can try gently with a tiny screwdriver or a thin knife ( but very gently so not to damage the surface of the bath plug) to make the cap go up and push it down with your hand so that the mechanism of the bath plug will move and finally open.

If its a push button one they operate on a spring unfortunately you or a plumber need to remove the bath trap and push it out to release obviously after getting the water out of the bath first then either repair or I suspect renew
