Plasterboarding ceiling, tapered or squared?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

I've removed the old lath and plaster ceilings throughout my house and am going to replace with plasterboard. Joists are around 400mm apart, I'm looking to use 2400x1200x12.5 plasterboard as the price is the same for 9.5 and 12.5, and Im hoping 12.5 would be stronger I have a plasterboard lift and wanted to know what would be best for ceilings tapered or Square Edge? Any advise is appreciated

If you want your ceilings plastered you can use either tapered or square edge it makes no difference at all ,but if you want your ceilings to be taped and jointed then you should use tapered edge ok.If you board new ceilings you should only use 12.5 mm boards as 9.5 mm is to thin to cover the span between the joists and will result in board sag between joists eventually .If you have any RSJ joists showing you should use fireline boards. I hope this helps Regards Mark
