window handle lock won't lock

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.12 PM

Hi, I have 2 upvc windows that are only a year and a half old with four handles where you push a button in the middle to open, and have locks with keys to stop the button being pressed so they can be locked shut. The windows open and close okay but when you turn the key in the lock to lock them now you can still press the (plastic) button in and open the window with all of them. Can I repair the locking mechanism or do I need new handles. The windows are guaranteed for 10 years but the handles only for one year. I'm very disappointed that they have not lasted very long. http://picpaste.com/IMG_2431-Tuqzc7We.JPG

The cheapest option is just replacing them

Sounds like the handles have failed to lock. You can have them easily replaced and the rest of the mechanism inspected to check for any signs of damage.

You would need to replace the handles, Take one off and measure the bar that goes into the lock you should be able to replace them no problem

Seems like you just need to replace the handles. An easy way to tell is to remove one handle and try to lock it is the button still presses in when it’s out of the mech you know it’s the handles (just for peace of mind)

Unfortunately your handles have just mechanically failed, I would recommend replacing them with a high quality branded window handles that are built to last.
