Paint skirting with Dulux Quick Dry Eggshell - need primer/undercoat?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.25 PM
Dulux Eggshell says it's "self-undercoating". Does that mean I don't need primer either? Or I still need primer? I'm going to use knotting solution on the knots.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

first start with sanding down your woodwork wit a 60 or 80 course sandpaper depending what condition your woodwork is in and then again with a 120 course sandpaper to take any sanding scratches out if new skirting lightly sand over with 120 course sandpaper and i always like using an undercoat no matter what as allows your top coat something to bite to and just be aware that you will probably find that your eggshell will require 2 coats as otherwise will probably be very shadowed in places i hope this helps :-)

Hi, my advice would be after applying your knotting solution, Paint your woodwork one coat of acrylic primer, this will raise the grain in the timber allowing easier sanding of the woodwork. Then apply your two coats of eggshell finish as required. I hope this has helped you achieve the finish on your woodwork that you require.

Dulux eggshell is a great paint but you definitely need a primer before applying it. Once your woodwork is ready to paint I would apply two coats of acrylic primer and two coats of eggshell. Make sure you leave 2 - 3 hours drying time between each coat.
