3 Bedroom House, split into 2 flats- electrics

Anonymous user 14 September 2016 - 4.24 PM

Hi! Purchased a 3 bedroom terraced house. Have secured all the required planning permission to split the house into two completely separate flats with individual entry doors. My question is, how do I split the electrics between the two flats? The electric company says I need two new lines, but off the record, their rep suggested I have two 'sub meters' installed making significant savings. Can sub meters be installed? Can I keep the current electrical meter in one flat as it's new? Will this be up to code? Thanks very much for your help!

The DNO will be the one's installing the supply so theirs will be the final word, ask them the questions. They may want to know your supply requirements KVA (maximum load). You may need your chosen electrician to work this out for you.

Providing, as Kevin already stated, the supply is sufficient for both flats, 2 separate sub meters can be fitted after the main meter with one bill from the supplier with you being repsonsible and you billing the tenants accordingly.
