How much space needed at sides of freestanding fridge freezer?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.38 PM

Tall freestanding fridge freezer will stand in the corner at the end of a row of 600mm deep base units. It has to stand away from the wall at the back so the view from the side won't look nice. It would look better if I build a housing round the f/f out of furniture board but how much space should I leave between the sides of the f/f and the housing? The f/f vents from the bottom at the back - there are no vents in the sides. I wouldn't put a floor in the housing - the f/f would stand on the kitchen floor and I'd put a large opening at the back of the housing top to let the hot air escape. I've seen pictures of American fridge freezers with housings built round them so I'm pretty sure it's possible but I don't want to get the dimensions wrong and cause problems with the fridge freezer.

Hello The minimum space for ventilation around your fridge should be 2cm on either side and 5cm at the back and top. Ensure you can pull the fridge out if you need to at any time,so leave enough space for your fingers to fit to ease it out. Also ensure you have enough clearance to be able to open the fridge door at a 90° angle and that you can remove shelves and drawers for cleaning. You can also install a vent in the top which you can buy from a diy shop. Hope this helps.
