Awful experience with Ben Britton. Things started well and his workmen were friendly, hard working chaps. However, communication with Ben broke down severely throughout the build, things not happening when they were meant to, or something totally different to expected. Concerns raised went unanswered, voicemails, emails ignored. We reached a point I was very concerned and expressed to Ben we were thinking of changing builder. He assured me things would change so we'd carried on. Only nothing changed. I asked how much of our £15k deposit we'd be due back. £5k of this was spent on completed garden works, the rest toward a garage conversion. All that happened on the garage conversion was foundations dug and footings. Yet all I was due back would he £1500, as the rest had been spent on materials. I've never seen these. When saying enough was enough , Ben argued on even returning the £1500. To this day he has not, not replied to any of these emails. I've had great builders in since and the work they have seen of his, they're fairly ashamed of and I've a lot of things to correct. You can see our experience is fairly mirrored to one of the other reviews here. We gave Ben chance after chance and extended an awful lot of patience to him. It got us nowhere and he's left us out of pocket, ignored and needing to spend even more money or righting wrongs.

This builder is a nice and friendly person on first appearance. He comes across quite experienced, well organized and supportive, until he's got the job. He rarely answers the phone, he replies to sms only if he pleases, which is seldom the case. He rarely communicates issues until you ask or complain. I received the best quotation from him, for the works I wanted to have done, in terms of details, specification and pricing. This was mostly because the other builders didn't provide me with proper quotes at all, and I was quite impressed by that. The works began on 22/08/2019 (It's not a typo, more then a year ago!) and were supposed to be completed in 3 months. They are still ongoing today, 04/11/2020. More then 14 months!!! 6 weeks brake due to Corona not his fault. I live on a building site in dust, dirt and my whole property looks like a dumping ground. I only had 1.5 rooms to live in, and I had to cook in my caravan for 5 months. He tries to get away with cheap workmanship although he promised skilled tradesmen in his quote. Sadly for him my professional background is the construction industry and I insist on making good the mistakes. By doing that he accuses me of delaying the progress and being rude. I answer: get it right the first time! If you are still thinking about hiring him I would be happy to show you around. Ask him for my name and address.
