    Tiling. 90x90 tiles

The tiling itself was to a good standard, and I can’t fault the quality of the work that was done. He worked hard, even on a very hot day, and I appreciated the effort he put in. Unfortunately, there were several issues that overshadowed the positive aspects. The work area was left quite messy, and there was a lot more tile wastage than expected. Despite buying more than the recommended square metre coverage, I ended up five tiles short, partly due to excessive wastage and one tile being cracked. When I phoned to ask about replacing a damaged tile, I was shocked by his response. Instead of discussing the issue professionally, he started swearing at me, which I found completely unacceptable. There was also a disagreement over payment. Although the job wasn’t fully completed, he wanted payment in full. I offered to pay two-thirds upfront and the remaining balance once the work was finished, which I felt was a fair compromise. I agreed to pay him for the day and parted job incomplete.

    Answer from tradesperson:

This is a complete fabrication. I understand you're frustrated that you did not buy enough tiles but that's not my error and nobody swore. No tile was damaged, see attached pic. The job was left clean and tidy (however with tools present) and in a way for us to continue next morning at 8am. You did not buy 10% wastage which I advised, and is ALWAYS needed. Due to door frames etc there will always be wastage (tile cuts needed) thats unavoidable. You told me at 9pm that you wanted to hold payment back, but for me to still complete the entire job, because you were 5 tiles short. I said no because no self-employed person works for free on a Saturday, on a promise of payment in two weeks time. So instead you agreed to pay me for what I had done, and that I would return when you have enough tiles. I returned the same night to collect my tools which you had thrown outside. You simply did not buy enough tiles and although I sympathise, I don't work for free. Thanks and good luck with the work.

    bathroom, WC, hallway & conservatory

LTL Tiling carried out the tiling work to a very good standard, and I am pleased with the overall quality of the finish. The workmanship on the tiling itself was excellent, and the job was completed professionally. However, there was one aspect of the work that left me disappointed. In the hallway/entrance area, some of the existing flooring was removed and it was discovered that the subfloor was uneven. The solution was to level the floor, which I appreciate was necessary. Unfortunately, this resulted in an unexpected height difference of approximately 3cm between the hallway and the adjoining living room and study. What disappointed me was not the levelling work itself, but that the potential consequence of creating such a significant step was never explained or discussed with us beforehand. Had we been made aware of this risk, we could have considered alternative options or at least been prepared for the outcome. Overall, the tiling work was completed to a high standard

    Answer from tradesperson:

Hi Jimmy thanks for your review, upto now you have only hired me to level and tile specific rooms. We did discuss the levelling in depth beforehand but apologies if there was a miscommunication. As discussed there would always be a height difference when only levelling one room. I was, and am happy to level the rest of the downstairs to achieve the same floor height. Many thanks, Luke LTL Tiling
