Matthew came and looked at the leaking tap, explained why he advised the tap needed replacing, and gave a free quote. We accepted the quote; Matthew ordered the tap and returned a few days later to install it. It was all done tidily including fitting isolation valves beneath the basin where there were none; we are pleased with the replacement tap.
