Bathroom Fitting- 5 Aug 2023
Took way too long with poor excuses for not finishing on time. Left no spare tiles and since one on floor has cracked. Cut corners on piping in my loft resulting in my hallway being flooded and costing to be re plastered and re decorated in hall. All because of lazy plumbing in loft. Don’t think he even trades as a builder any more thank goodness. Or this could happen to somebody else. AVOID

Extensions- 25 Aug 2020
I did my due diligence on Vullcan, but things went downhill. After a week i got a pre-tax invoice for £3000 for a more "complex" drainage system which was already completed, this was the start of them trying to get around contract items and look for every way possible to charge extra fees which i can’t go through in the word limit here. When that dint work they refused to do the work. e.g. they literally installed a tempered glass sheet, with liquid glue on my roof and stated to me that this was a "roof window". I had to show them buildings regulations that this was unacceptable and illegal especially when our contract said it has to be a VELUX ROOF WINDOW! Promised a 6-8 week completion, this is 9 months later. I had now paid about 90% of the original bill and 100% of additional costs. The final payment was due after completion and a 2 week snagging period. But the demand for payments started, with threats to sue. This was laughable as they hadn't completed the job. •The roof was leaking •Electrical issues with the fuse box and multiple light /electrical points •Outstanding items •The buildings controls company stated they would not be able to sign off on the building work because of outstanding issues, which I wouldn’t have even known as they lied stating they HAD the certificate. I agreed to send a FULL payment to an escrow company and pay HALF of the costs so they can complete and fix safety issues but they refused! Shameful experience.

Questions to ask a New Wanstead painter and decorator

Choosing a New Wanstead painter and decorator isn’t just about finding someone who can apply a coat of paint. It’s about working with someone who genuinely cares about how your home looks and feels. Here are some questions to help you make the right choice:

What types of projects have you completed in New Wanstead?

From period terraces and cottage interiors to modern flats, each property in New Wanstead has its own character. Ask your painter or decorator about their experience with homes similar to yours, and what finishes or materials they recommend for your walls or woodwork.

Can you share photos or examples of your recent work?

Before-and-after images give you a sense of their style, attention to detail, and how they approach surfaces or colours. Many painters and decorators feature their work on MyBuilder, so it’s easy to browse through and see what inspires you.

Do you have references from past clients in New Wanstead?

Hearing how others describe their workmanship, communication, and reliability can make your decision easier. You can also check reviews on MyBuilder to see how previous customers felt about their results.

How do you prepare surfaces and deal with cracks or damp patches?

Proper prep makes all the difference. A good decorator will explain how they handle imperfections before painting to ensure your new finish lasts.

Are you familiar with local rules for decorating listed or conservation buildings in New Wanstead?

Decorating listed buildings in New Wanstead sometimes needs formal consent to protect architectural significance. Knowing how to navigate these regulations and whether specific materials or colours are required can make a big difference in avoiding fines or costly rework.

FAQ: Common questions about New Wanstead painting and decorating services

How long does a typical painting and decorating project take in New Wanstead?

Project length varies with the size and nature of the work. A single room might take a few days, while larger jobs like whole-house decorating or detailed woodwork can take several weeks. Factors like surface preparation, drying times, and weather conditions for exterior work also affect the schedule.

What kind of paint or finishes are suitable for New Wanstead homes?

In New Wanstead, common choices include matte and eggshell finishes for interiors due to their elegant look and ease of touch-ups. For exterior surfaces, weather-resistant paints that cope with the local climate, such as moisture and temperature changes, are essential for lasting protection.

How do decorators prepare surfaces in older or period homes in New Wanstead?

Surface preparation in New Wanstead may involve cleaning, filling cracks, sanding, and sometimes treating issues like dampness. Proper prep is key to paint adhesion and finish durability, especially in homes with plaster, lath walls, or older wood.

Will painters and decorators in New Wanstead help with colour selection or test samples?

Many decorators offer guidance on colour choices based on lighting and room use and can provide sample swatches or test patches to help you visualise the final look before commitment.
