3–4 Weeks Became Months – Then He Walked Away John started in May saying the job would take 3–4 weeks. Then completion became the end of June, then July, August and finally September. Each time we were assured it would be finished, while he repeatedly left our job to work elsewhere. We hired him to remove wallpaper and leave properly prepared, smooth painted walls. We agreed to lining paper on ONE damaged area only, yet later discovered it had been used extensively elsewhere without our agreement. Some areas described as finished have visible ceiling seams, bubbling/lifting paper and poor, unfinished areas around windows. After months of patience, when we finally challenged the standard of the work, John simply walked away, admitting in writing that the job was unfinished and that he would not return. We have paid £3,250 and now need someone else to rectify and finish it. Exactly the sort of behaviour people associate with cowboy tradesmen. I wish someone had warned us.
