Remone completed my kitchen, he initially stripped the kitchen down; removing all work tops and any tiles. I was initially impressed with this as he competed this task effectively and extremely carful to prevent any potential damage to the kitchen. After the stripping of the kitchen, Remone proceeded to talk me through my initial design and offered his advise on what he thinks will be more suited to the kitchen due to the structure and to prevent any additional costs. The actual workmanship or Remone was absolutely impeccable and cannot fault it. He is extremely meticulous and pays attention to detail vigorously, the tiles laid in my kitchen are laid perfectly; everything is symmetrical with a very clean effortless finish. Remone was extremely professional throughout the job constantly updates me through the renovation and I was always in the loop with everything. He was very reliable and never missed a day off and was always on time. I cannot fault Remone and will be using him for further renovations in my house.

Painting & Decorating- 4 Dec 2024
Could not recommend more highly, the best client service and product I have ever received. This is a father and son team who absolutely shattered expectations - we genuinely consider ourselves so lucky to have found David and his father and couldn't be happier with their service. On the first meeting their expertise was immediately obvious, with just a single walk through of the property being enough for them to identify what we needed and pick up on details that only comes from years and years of practical experience. That set the tone for rest of the relationship, with there being so many instances of them going out of there way with no other intention than to provide the best client outcome possible. Here are just a few examples that show their genuine client care and professionalism: - David was constantly available on WhatsApp or the phone to answer questions or provide advice with almost instant responses. I don't think I've ever experienced better client service in any context. - David and his dad personally ran around London for days trying to find replacement doors that fit the frames, picked up paints from the store, found and purchased appropriate fittings like door stops, light switch covers etc. - these small things were taken care of us with just us needing to approve options they found in store. It was a massive time and stress saver for us. - we were doing this on the fly so evolved our requirements almost constantly throughout the project - these were always accommodated and not only that, with such a positive and helpful attitude that it made our lives so much easier - when retiling the bathroom they informed me they would have to take the cabinets out to tile underneath - I suggested they could tile around it but insisted that it should be done in case we ever wanted to replace the cabinet. They did this at no extra cost to ourselves, just extra work for them which underscores their professionalism. - they gave proactive advice on so many aspects of the project, including the most appropriate paints and floor varnishes, proactively identifying design faults that we were not aware of and remediating them (e.g. very oddly placed light switches), identified a pretty shoddy job of repairing a leak in the loft and future proofed it for us which is again something we would never have been aware of until another leak occurred, they even proactively put a small sliding door into the bathtub panelling (no extra cost) to ensure any future plumbing issues could easily be investigated. - they were unbelievably clean which was such a nice bonus - the property was immaculate at the end of every day, and for me that showed a level of respect for clients and the property that is so hard to find. - measurements - they took care of all of these for us , including tile measurements, blinds, garden edging etc. - it was such a luxury to be able to just be told how much of each needed to be ordered and they were 100% accurate - again such a time and stress saver for us. These are just some examples of our experience, I can honestly say that this is the lever of service we received throughout. With such an amazing service you might think that they would have charged a premium. This was not the case, in fact the opposite, I could easily see another contractor charge 2-3 times what we paid, and it is particularly impressive when you consider the flawless finishing and breadth of work they undertook - the whole house repainted (walls, ceilings, cabinets), the flooring sanded and revarnished plus carpet upstairs taken out and floorboards repaired, painted and varnished, garden landscaped, bathrooms retiling, fireplace retailing, toilets replaced, light switches rewired etc - it was a full makeover. They also achieved all this in 2 weeks - that is no mean feat but is even more impressive when you consider that our requirements were constantly evolving - they took all in their stride and just replanned sequencing of activities to accommodate us. We have since passed David's details onto no less than 5 friends who have all been absolutely delighted, so we've put our recommendation into practice!

Matt and the team at Gillfield were an absolute pleasure to deal with, right from the start and all the way to completion of the project - refurbishing a large flooded basement office. They were always responsive and very professional. The work was properly quoted for and completed to an exceptional standard and on a very tight schedule. I would strongly recommend their services.

Questions to ask a Islington painter and decorator

Choosing a Islington painter and decorator isn’t just about finding someone who can apply a coat of paint. It’s about working with someone who genuinely cares about how your home looks and feels. Here are some questions to help you make the right choice:

What types of projects have you completed in Islington?

From period terraces and cottage interiors to modern flats, each property in Islington has its own character. Ask your painter or decorator about their experience with homes similar to yours, and what finishes or materials they recommend for your walls or woodwork.

Can you share photos or examples of your recent work?

Before-and-after images give you a sense of their style, attention to detail, and how they approach surfaces or colours. Many painters and decorators feature their work on MyBuilder, so it’s easy to browse through and see what inspires you.

Do you have references from past clients in Islington?

Hearing how others describe their workmanship, communication, and reliability can make your decision easier. You can also check reviews on MyBuilder to see how previous customers felt about their results.

How do you prepare surfaces and deal with cracks or damp patches?

Proper prep makes all the difference. A good decorator will explain how they handle imperfections before painting to ensure your new finish lasts.

Are you familiar with local rules for decorating listed or conservation buildings in Islington?

Decorating listed buildings in Islington sometimes needs formal consent to protect architectural significance. Knowing how to navigate these regulations and whether specific materials or colours are required can make a big difference in avoiding fines or costly rework.

FAQ: Common questions about Islington painting and decorating services

How long does a typical painting and decorating project take in Islington?

Project length varies with the size and nature of the work. A single room might take a few days, while larger jobs like whole-house decorating or detailed woodwork can take several weeks. Factors like surface preparation, drying times, and weather conditions for exterior work also affect the schedule.

What kind of paint or finishes are suitable for Islington homes?

In Islington, common choices include matte and eggshell finishes for interiors due to their elegant look and ease of touch-ups. For exterior surfaces, weather-resistant paints that cope with the local climate, such as moisture and temperature changes, are essential for lasting protection.

How do decorators prepare surfaces in older or period homes in Islington?

Surface preparation in Islington may involve cleaning, filling cracks, sanding, and sometimes treating issues like dampness. Proper prep is key to paint adhesion and finish durability, especially in homes with plaster, lath walls, or older wood.

Will painters and decorators in Islington help with colour selection or test samples?

Many decorators offer guidance on colour choices based on lighting and room use and can provide sample swatches or test patches to help you visualise the final look before commitment.
