  • Hi, my name is Sam. I’ve been in the building trade for over 15 years, I started my career as soon as I left school, found myself an apprenticeship with a local builder and completed my bricklayer certification with the local builder, doing one day a week at the city college. After completing my apprenticeship I decided to make the step and turned self-employed, still working for the local builder but subcontracting to him instead. The majority of work we undertook were extensions, conservatories, garden walls and patios all around the Norfolk area. Our role in the build was to dig & concrete the foundations/footings. Lay any drainage that was required; tap into the existing system or new soakaways. Complete all brickwork from foundation, then ready for roof. We would also prepare and concrete the oversite. After subcontracting to this local builder for 7/8 years, I decided I wanted a new challenge and got a good opportunity to start subbing to a bigger building firm, who’s work was mainly new build houses. I continued to do the groundwork and brickwork side of the build, just on a larger scale compared to the extensions/conservatories. In the last year I’ve set up my own building company..DUGDALE BUILDERS LIMITED

  • New Home Builder in Norfolk

I have been working in the construction industry since 1986. I have built new houses, extensions, alterations and conversions. I have put a 30 mile radius in my preferences but if the job sounds interesting I will travel further. Recently I have worked in Sheringham, Reedham and Westleton. I set out buildings and extensions, dig the foundations and concrete. Lay the bricks and blocks and install first floor joists. Sometimes I put the roof on and then felt, batten and tile. I lay the drainage and landscape. I am methodical in my work and have always achieved high standards.

What to ask a Norfolk new home builder before hiring

Before choosing a builder for your new home, it’s important to ask the right questions. These will help you understand their experience, so you can be confident you’re hiring the right business for your project.

How many new homes have you built in Norfolk, and what specific experience do you have with projects like mine?

A building company should detail their experience with local projects similar in size and style to yours, showing they understand the regional building requirements.

Can you share examples or photos of the latest new build projects you’ve completed in Norfolk?

Seeing a building company’s recent work ensures they have the skills and style suited to your vision. You can view images of work by different companies in Norfolk on MyBuilder.

Do you have references from clients who have had new homes built in Norfolk?

Builders can usually provide contact details for past clients in Norfolk, so you can verify their workmanship and ensure they are the right builders for the work you need done.

Are you fully insured, and do you offer any warranties on your work?

Insurance is essential for protecting against damages or accidents, and warranties give you peace of mind after the build. What’s your estimated timeline for completing the project, from start to finish? They should give a clear schedule, including key milestones, so you know what to expect and when.

Can you provide a detailed, written quote with all costs included?

A builder will give you an itemised estimate covering materials, labour, permits, and other expenses.

How will you handle planning permissions, building regulations, and inspections?

Ask about their process for managing approvals and inspections so you know anything they build will comply with the correct regulations in Norfolk. If you want to know more about hiring the right person, we have a full guide on how to hire a new build specialist here.
